Protocol developed by doctors and pharmacists over 25 years proves highly effective for alleviating Chronic Sinusitis

The most effective way to stop the immune reaction to mold (fungus) which causes chronic sinusitis is to remove the mold from the nose and environmental air. This protocol is divided into two parts: treatment of the patient and treatment of the environment to remove mold is in order to maintain healthy sinuses.

If you have a mild case of chronic sinusitis, start with the body protocol (steps 1-4 below). If you do not improve, or you have severe chronic sinusitis, see a doctor and use the mold screening kit to test your home, office, and car. If there are high mold counts in your environment start using the environmental protocol (ETP) (steps 5-7 below) and consult a professional to find and fix the cause of the mold in your environment. Again,

  1. Clear blockage of your sinuses with Saline Irrigation

  2. Clean Sinuses with Micro Balance CitriDrops Antifungal Nasal Spray

  3. Use a Facial Steamer to clean and sooth sinuses

  4. Boost immune system with Thymate™

  5. See Environmental Treatment Protocols

This protocol is effective in controlling the conditions that cause the symptoms of chronic sinusitis. However, if you have a moisture problem in any of your living or working environments you will not see a full recovery until that issue has been resolved.

The single most important item for sinus and systemic health is to get the mold counts in the air you breathe down to below 4 colonies per 1 hour mold plate exposure. Some sicker patients need their counts in the 0-2 ranges for health improvements to occur.

Testing with mold plates, having recorded data from the mold lab, and periodically retesting your environment is imperative.

This test is your way to confirm or dispute the presence of fungus in the air you breathe. It is a scientific measurement, not a guess. It tells you exactly which molds/fungi are present and exactly how severe the exposure is and where the mold is located.

Once the source of the mold exposure has been determine and remediated you will want to test again to make sure the cleanup was thorough. You will want to test periodically (1 to 2 times a year) to monitor your living environment.

Protocol Details

1. Clear Blockage: Saline Irrigation is a cleaning process that will help you to breathe normally. This procedure can be done in one of two ways:

For mild to moderate cases use the NasoPure Irrigation System. It comes with salt and sodium bicarbonate powder packets. Mix the packets with distilled water and two (2) drops of CitriDrops per bottle. Do not use tap water.

NOTE: If CitriDrops added to your saline irrigation creates a burning or stinging sensation, halve the number of drops. If you still have burning or more nasal congestion after irrigation, discontinue use and irrigate with saline alone, no CitriDrops added. Some people may have citrus sensitivity and cannot use CitriDrops.

For severe cases of sinusitis and allergy, using the Grossan Irrigator System is recommended. These units resemble a water pick used for teeth but are specifically designed for the nose. Remember to only used Distilled water in the cleaning process.

Mix salt and sodium bicarbonate in the distilled water as directed. If infected or if you have sinus polyps, add 20 drops of CitriDrops to full tank of water or 1 drop per oz. of distilled water. If you experience any discomfort or burning, or more nasal congestion after irrigation reduce the number of CitriDrops by half. If you experience any discomfort, discontinue the use of CitriDrops and irrigate with salt and baking soda. Some people may have citrus sensitivity and cannot use CitriDrops.

With either irrigation system, put your head face down into sink, put the nasal tip loosely in one nostril. Point the tip slightly towards the tip of the nose. If you feel pressure in your forehead, ears, or elsewhere, loosen the nasal tip so that the water can come out of the same side that you are irrigating. It is important that you feel no pressure. If you experience pain, discontinue. If your nose is not blocked, the irrigation will come out of the opposite side. Repeat the irrigation on the other side.

(Note: we do not recommend the use of a Nettie Pot for chronic sinus sufferers, because it is not thorough enough for our protocol and can cause the irrigation to go into the middle ear via the Eustachian tube in the back of the nose. Deaths have occured with Nettie Pot users not using distilled water.)

2. Clean Sinuses: CitriDrops Nasal Spray uses an all natural citrus extract that is highly potent against fungus and contains no Zinc. Because the antifungal agent is applied directly to the inflamed sinus tissue, it is effective in most cases.

The spray should be utilized 4 times a day. Use the spray after your irrigation so that the spray is not washed out of the sinus.

3. Steam Sinuses: Fill Vick's Personal Steam Inhaler with distilled water - Do NOT use tap water and add EXACTLY three (3) drops of CitriDrops - more is NOT better. Breathe in through nose and out through the mouth. Do this twice daily for 10 minutes each time. This can be done when infected or if you sense you are getting sick.

If burning occurs, discontinue use.

Continue for 3 days past "well" to avoid relapse.

4. Boost Immune System: Take 1-2 Thymate vitamins twice a day after a full meal. The maximum dose is 6 tabs twice a day. This maximum dosage should only be used in severe cases with a gradual increase to 6 tabs. Once symptoms are improved, return to 1-2 tabs 2X day.

What is the Thymus Gland?
The Thymus Gland determines the health of the immune system by releasing hormones that regulate immune function. These thymic hormones help immune cells to mature, "programming" them to recognize tissues as either "self" or "invader". Recognizing the enemy (invader) is the first step in the immune response. The thymus gland is large in infants and children and grows smaller with age. The thymus seeds the body with immature T-cells, the white blood cells responsible for "cell-mediated immunity". This gland secretes special chemicals called cytokines (ie.- interferon, interleukins) that influence the specialization and migration of T-lymphocytes throughout the body.

The thymus gland lies above the heart and behind the sternum, between your left and right lungs.

Thymate resupplies us with thymus, which begins to dry up between puberty and age 20 for everyone. By the time we turn 50, the thymus gland no longer produces thymus, yet it is central in controlling the whole immune system's function.
As with many supplements, there is no current hard scientific data proving that supplementing the thymus gland provides any overall benefit, I have seen patients improve and believe this is worthwhile. Many doctors prescribe the use of Thymus supplements for a variety of reasons.
